Gardening is one of my many hobbies…I enjoy creating new beds and planting new plants and watching everything grow. We recently finished our fence (finally) and have begun expanding our garden. My husband surprised me with a new batch of daylilies and I went to Walmart and Lowes and bought some new flowers along with an apple tree. We had to cut down the apple tree the previous owner planted because it was too big to move (it was not in a good spot) and it was getting smothered with vines.
There are so many pretty plants to choose from and depending on if you’re working in the shade, partial shade, or full sun, you buy plants depending on where you are working at the time. I have found that you have to get the plants you like as you see them because they go quick and when you go back they are usually gone.
While on a shopping exertion with my daughter we found a plant called Dragon’s Blood, it’s color is a rich red and looks like feather tufts; turns out it’s in the celosia family and is an annual in my area but they are pretty. I also found some rocket trumpets in pretty reds and pinks which I planted around the apple tree. I have to go back for a few more delphiniums, i’m out of balance, ha ha. My daughter added a couple flamingo’s which she named Otis and Pearl…LOL.
In my small front yard I took out the hydrandgea bush and replaced it with some blue delphiniums, red&green coleus, and white impatients. I really wanted to do a red/white/blue garden and can’t wait for everything to fill in and bush up. My daughter picked out some pretty little yellow bells to fill in an empty spot. They look like sunshine on these rainy days.
I also decided to spruce up around a couple of the trees….I think they turned out pretty.
I also have a cutting garden…we added some shasta daisies and black eyed susans (my personal favorite and the state flower) to the abundant cone flowers. This garden gets so many bees, butterflies, and finches once it all blooms. I love that it gets so full of life and the butterflies are amazing. I think i’m done with the front and side yards for now 🙂
Next project is to finish the garden, add a grilling patio, and paint the deck…… All before my daughter’s graduation party. PHew!!! I also really want to be able to enjoy deck time with the family; so the sooner it gets done the sooner we can have deck time.
Thanks for stopping by and visiting my garden!
